DESIGN FOR AN IDEAL HEALTHY HOME

Creating Your Personal Lifestyle

There are many styles that you can choose for your home. The building itself may influence your final decision but ultimately style must also relate to and reflect your PERSONAL LIFESTYLES. Flexibility has to be an essential ingredients when styling and planning your home. Age and life stage will be influential. Those in their 30s may prefer a fairly steam lined minimalist interior, which is to clean and maintain. If your are in your middle years, you may prefer a cozy lifestyles, and may need a two or even four bedroom house, a living and dinning room surrounded by a good size garden with potential of creating several different outdoor spaces.

You may either choose to move several times to accommodate life changes, or to adapt the same property in many different ways over the years. Moving can be highly stressful and needs to be planned as carefully as possible in order for such a big change to rum smoothly.

NEED FOR PLANNING

Whatever stage you are at, you will want to be able to live as comfortable as possible in your home, so it needs to be well planned with plenty storage space to accommodate the clutter of family living. In order to achieve harmony, you will need to plan your space so that you can move about and perform various tasks. You will also need different rooms for different activities. Style will plan a part in planning, but so too should comfort and efficiency.

COLOR CHOICE

You can get a great deal of enjoyment from deciding on design, playing with patterns and choosing color scheme.  Color is an important part of any healthy home because the colors selected will play a major role in creating mood and ambience, they can stimulate or relax, provide warmth or cool down a space. The type of patterns you use, your furniture, curtains and blinds, will all help to create a distinctive style as well as creating an appropriate atmosphere.

If you live in a fairly small house or apartment, aim to carry color on from one room into another, this way the whole area will feel more spacious and create a sense of continuity. The hall, stairs and landing area in particular, which should be warm and welcoming, should relate to all the areas or rooms leading off. Floor color can provide this link, either by using the same floor color throughout or by using patterned multicolored flooring in the hall and on the stairs and then separating out the individual colors to use singly in different rooms.

You can work mainly with neutrals, with warm or cool colors, and bring in sharp contrast by using accessories. Use color to enhance good features in your home, play down less attractive ones, and improve the proportions of different rooms. Color can also lighted dark places, warm cool spaces, and create feelings of intimacy or space.

LIGHT AND NATURE

Planning a healthy home also means making the best use of light, both natural and artificial. Aim to encourage as much natural light into your home as possible, and then use artificial lighting  to enhance dark areas, ensure safety, and provide well lit working areas. Making links with nature also brings harmony and health into the home. In order to make your home healthier and pleasant aim to create indoor green spaces in your living areas. A healthy home should also be sensual and calm. Scents, pleasing sounds and water features enhance every environment. A quiet home free from unwanted sound is good for health, constructive family life and for times of meditation.

NATURAL MATERIALS

Whatever the decisions you reach on planning, color and furnishing, aim to use as many natural materials as possible. They are healthier and more pleasant and enjoyable to live with. A healthy home is non polluting. It is better to furnish and decorate using natural materials, cane, woods, rushes and organic paints. Avoid using synthetic materials and other harmful toxic or polluting substances such as formaldehyde or vinyl.
