PRINCIPLE OF FENG SHUI

Yin & Yang Symbol

A lot of the importance principles of Feng Shui or fungshui are based on Taoism, the ancient religion of China. According to Taoist thought, the universe can be divided into two separate areas, things that you can touch and hold and things that you cannot. Taoist philosophers called the things that were real Yin, meaning earth or matter, and things that were ethereal Yang, or heaven.

The Yin and Yang Symbol

The twin concepts of Yin and Yang were fundamental to Chinese philosophy, in which they were seen not in opposition to each other, but rather as complimentary each needed the other to exist. Thus create one of the most ancient and powerful of all symbols - the YIN/YANG symbol. The simple but extremely evocative black and white roundel sum up all the essential of Chinese thought. Each half contains a tiny dot of the other within is to represent the unison of the two.

The two principles were symbolized even more simply as a straight line representing heaven, Yang and a broken line representing earth, Yin.
