Properties and Value of Thyme Essential Oil

Derived from the Greek word, meaning to burn a sacrifice, thyme was frequently used as incense on ancient temple altars. The herb was believed by the Greeks to increase courage, thus Roman soldiers bathed in it before going off to battle. During the middle Ages, sprigs of thyme were sewn into clothing of the Crusaders to promote bravery or given to a jousting knight by his beloved.

On an emotional level, thyme revives the spirits and stimulates the desire to take decisive positive action. The essence derived from the herb is one of the most powerful stimulating aromatic oils. On a mental level, the oil increases concentration, memory and general mental acuity. France of thyme, which is a hot, powerful and penetrating herbal aroma, encourages the flow of vital energy to the mind and emotional centers.

Suggested use :

As energizing morning bath oil, a refreshing foot soak or a stimulating body rub. Avoid during pregnancy or if there is a history of high blood pressure or over active thyroid.

Antiseptic

An intestinal antiseptic, valuable in gastric infections. 
Used for treating colds, coughs and sore throats: Thyme is an excellent pulmonary disinfectant, useful for all respiratory infections. It is very effective against mouth and throat infections. Useful for nose, throat and chest infections when used as an inhalation or as a mouthwash or gargle. Thyme is effective against bacteria that cause mouth and gum infections. Thyme is a strong antiseptic.

Thyme is effective in all forms of infection. Thyme stimulates the production of white corpuscles, strengthening the body's resistance to invading organisms.
